Here we are, in the thick of it. National Novel Writing Month is upon us, and like last year, I started off way behind.
In full disclosure mode, “writing in public” like Dean Wesley Smith, and just because I did not do a single blog entry in October — what the *blank* is wrong with me? — Here’s how it’s going:
November 1: Thursday, Game Night. But first, JOB. Tried to write at lunch, realized I have a minor issue with my new hardware, an older-model tablet that came packaged with a laptop-style keyboard. There’s no way to disable the track pad without dismantling the thing, which I don’t trust myself to do. Unfortunately, my big fat hands like to touch the track pad when I’m typing, which causes problems.
Did write a bit on the bus between Anaheim station and the comic shop where game night is, then a little more at the comic shop, since everyone was involved in a game when I got there. Then I got to play Star Realms with one of the regulars, a new game for him. I won the first game. He won the second. It was a ton of fun.
Managed 662 words for the day, well below the target of 1,667.
November 2: Friday, my first write-in at the Starbucks in Orange. But first, JOB. Wrote a smidge before work, using a different software (but still the same track pad issue), then wrote a fraction on the bus between Orange station and the Starbucks. The write-in was faboo! It’s the gang I only see during November, and maybe once or twice in April or July. Got into a groove for a bit, but the track pad thing is getting on my nerves. I may have to suffer through my very old netbook for another November until I can figure out a way to get something like a Chromebook. At least I know how to disable the track pad on my netbook.
Wrote a little over 1,000 words for the day.
Total is 1,730. I need to double it just to get yesterday’s target of 3,334.
TODAY! November 3: Saturday. NO JOB TODAY! Will have a phone write-in with my friend in Canada in about a half hour. No words so far, but that’s just because I was doing some housekeeping. (Had a randomized victim list to finish, then did a seek-and-replace to put the names in my draft. STAFF1 is not a good name, but Vernon is.)
It’s also Double-Up Donation Day at the event’s headquarters. Go to the site (link above) if you’re interested in donating to the cause and get extra donor swag. They also have a goal for people to double their word count for the day, which I wholeheartedly need to do.
Target for today is 5,000 words. I’ll need 3,270 to make it happen.
I got this. (I hope.)
